About Illinois Roads Scholar Program

The APWA Chicago Metro Chapter is proud to announce the 2023 APWA Illinois Roads Scholar Program (IRSP) on May 8-12, 2023 at the Keller Convention Center in Effingham, Illinois!

IRSP is designed to meet the training needs for frontline public works employees. This three-year (one week per year) program is designed to train in most aspects of municipal road right-of-way work tasks and is non-sequential so that one may start the three-year cycle at any time.

Registration is $749 and includes classes, materials, breaks and the following meals. Breakfast on Tuesday through Friday; lunch on Tuesday through Thursday; dinner on Thursday. We are accepting 40 first year registrants and all attendees must be registered by the April 8, 2023 deadline.

For lodging arrangements call the Effingham Holiday Inn and Suites at 217-540-7777 and mention you are with APWA IRSP to receive the discounted rates. Do not make reservations on the websites.

Participants who successfully attend all three training years will be designated as an APWA Illinois Roads Scholar and will be recognized at Thursday’s evening picnic.

Make plans to join us May 8-12, 2023 in Effingham, Illinois at the Keller Convention Center for this innovative comprehensive training program.

What they are saying about IRSP

Being someone completely new to PW,

I am very grateful for this course. Learning from people with so much experience is also very beneficial to not only myself, but the community I serve.

The material covered in today’s session was awesome.

I have been interested in looking at plans/surveying. The instructors were engaging and effective in communicating the subject matter. Nicely done.

Steve knocked it out of the park again.

This is one of the best programs I have ever attended. It is making me a better person and employee.

Program Highlights Include:

  • OSHA 10-Hour Course
  • Pesticide Use/Licensing
  • Plan Sets, Grade Setting, and GIS
  • Live Line Demo
  • Plus much more!
